Melbourne, Australia 2013 - Day 3

04th  August 2013

Good morning, Phillip Island!

We woke up to a rainy morning and started our day with a quick visit to Cowes Jetty. The beach was stunning but freezing and the wind was blowing fierce.

After some quick photos, we went in search for breakfast and “landed in” Phillip Island Bakery. We had pies while mum had sandwich. Their pies were just YUMMY!!!

After a tasty brekkie, we drove to The Nobbies. There were still sunshine during our breakfast but once we reached The Nobbies, it started to drizzle. You can have a spectacular view of the coast and ocean at The Nobbies. If time permits, visit the Nobbies Centre which features Aussie marine life.

As we were early, the Centre is not open until 11am. So we took a few beautiful snaps before it starts to rain again (@ - @;). Unable to fight the rain, we had no choice but to leave this beautiful place.

On our way out of Phillip Island, we stopped at Panny’s Chocolate Factory. They have a chocolate museum where you can see how chocolates are made and even customized your own favorite chocolate bar on the spot. Considering that we are not big fans of chocolate, we skipped the museum and left Panny’s with 2 small packets of chocolate.

Next is watching wild pelicans at San Remo. Research said that crew from nearby fish & chips restaurant will start feeding the pelicans around noon. So if you have ample time and do not mind waiting for more than an hour, just stay and loom around the small town till it’s time to watch the pelican feeding. I bet it will be amazing. By the way, the pelicans were really huge.

Mornington Peninsula is yet another 2 hours’ drive from Phillip Island. Our stay for the night is a B&B – Mornington Bed & Breakfast. As it’s still too early to check-in, which is at 2pm, we decided to explore the beaches and town.

One of the main reasons for visiting Mornington Peninsula was to see the colorful bathing boxes. To our disappointment, we managed to only find a row or 2. To make matters worse, it was a gloomy day.  Photos taken are unable to reflect the radiant color contrast of the bathing boxes. We will definitely come back again in search of more with an additional day's stay.

Craving for hot soup on this wet and cold day, lunch was Chinese Food. Imagining having hot and spicy Tom Yum Goong and boiling hot Wanton Soup! It is too perfect to be true.

After a good lunch, we went back to Mornington Bed & Breakfast for our check-in. This place is EXQUISITE!!!! We are staying in a Victorian house!! Denise (the owner) checks us in to our Darcy Suite. Everything was so nice especially the bed. Have you ever dreamt of sleeping in a Victorian bed and go all the way back to the Victorian era? You can have your dream fulfilled with Mornington Bed & Breakfast.

After fascinating through every corner of Darcy Suite, we had high tea. Denise baked very delicious chocolate cupcake for all staying guests. It was so luscious that even a non-cake lover, like my sis, finished hers and mum’s cupcakes. Coffee and tea were served in very elegant cutlery. I feel like a tai-tai enjoying high-class English high tea. After high tea, we chill out in the house while some had a quick power nap.

Dinner was at Kirks on the Esplanade located in Kirkpatrick’s hotel upon Denise’s recommendation. A casual dining bistro offering breathtaking views of Port Phillip Bay, too bad it’s already dark when we arrived. They serve a wide variety of cuisine including fresh seafood, aged grain-fed steaks, wood fired pizza, pastas & risotto. We ordered a few different mains and share.

No other words can describe our satisfaction on the food except “SUPERB”. I am not being exaggerating but that’s how I felt. Then it is some Pokies (Slot machine) time before we head back to our B&B and enjoy the fullest of the suite for our only night stay.
