Seoul Autumn Love 2011 - Day 5

03rd November 2011

Changing Hotel

Today we have to change our hotel. We are moving from Metro Hotel to Ibis Myeongdong which is less than 5 minutes walk away. Compared to Metro Hotel, this is smaller and with lesser amenities (or maybe I should say NO amenities). There is only a standing shower and no bathtub.
Welcome to Ibis!

북촌한옥마Bukchon Hanok Maeul北村韓屋– Bukchon Hanok Village

Surrounded by Gyeongbokgung Palace, Changdeokgung Palace and Jongmyo Shrine, Bukchon Hanok Village is home to hundreds of traditional houses called 'hanok' that date back to the Joseon Dynasty. The name, 'Bukchon,' which literally translates to 'northern village,' came about as the neighborhoods that the village covers lie to the north of the two significant Seoul landmarks, Cheonggyecheon Stream and Jongno.

To tour the Bukchon Hanok Village, pick up a walking map at the Bukchon Traditional Cultural Center. This will help a lot in moving around. Be careful, HIGH RISK of getting LOST!!!! ( - _ - ;;;)

Getting near..... 300m more to go

광장시장 Gwangjang Sijang (広蔵市場)
Gwangjang Market was the first permanent market to be established in Korea and dated back to the year 1905. The first thing that comes to my mind when one hears the name ‘Gwangjang Market’ is food. The market serves popular comfort food like 빈대떡 bindaetteok (Korean-style pancake made of ground mung beans, pork or beef, and kimchi), 김밥 Kimbap, 비빔밥 Bibimbap, and 순대 sundae (a kind of sausage made by stuffing meat, tofu and cellophane noodles in pig’s intestines).

Let's start the food tour!!!

Namdaemun Market, located in the very center of Seoul, is the biggest traditional market in Korea selling children's clothing, men & women's clothing, daily miscellaneous goods, kitchenware and local & imported products. Most shops have their own factories and make the products themselves offering both wholesale and retail prices which enable visitors to purchase various shopping items at extremely inexpensive prices.

Can you see Shinsegye Dept. Store on the right?
I don't know what is this but I see it everywhere.

Back to Myeongdong for dinner
For 1st visit travelers, REMEMBER, you can walk from Namdaemum to Myeongdong. Follow the direction towards Shinsegye Department Store. Do not take the subway which we intended to do. (*Yah…. laugh!! I know this is a stupid idea but we don’t know mah….!!!)

We had our dinner at 김치집 Kimchijib (Kimchi House). We tried their recommendations of pork and beef kimchi hotpot. Hmm…… we don’t recommend you to eat the beef kimchi hotpot but the pork kimchi hotpot was a hit. We love it.

It's on the 2nd floor

O’Sulloc Tea House at Myeongdong
This green tea house is operated by a major company that produces the most popular green tea in Korea. Here, visitors will find a clean and modest interior, unassuming, yet aromatic green tea, and a wide variety of green tea cakes that are almost too pretty to eat. This is a great place to relax during a walking tour and popular leisure activity for females!

Isn't it cosy??? I love the ambience.

Tropical Dream
The almond cookies taste SUPERB!!!

What?!? You are closing in 10 minutes but we have not enough finish our drinks. Please 打包 my drinks for me. I am going to sit here for at least an hour during my next visit. 絶対!!!
